Edwige Dro

Edwige Dro is a writer and a literary translator (English and French) from Côte d’Ivoire working at the intersection of literary arts, linguistic justice and feminism. Her short stories and essays have been widely anthologized, and she has been on the jury of prizes like the Caine Prize for African Writing, the PEN International Short Story Prize, and on the advisory boards of the PEN/HEIM Translation Fund or the African Book Festival.

In 2014, she was selected as one of the writers for the Africa39 project of the Hay Festival. She was also awarded a writing bursary from the Miles Morland Fellowship in 2019 and is a 2021 writing fellow of the Iowa International Writing Program.

Edwige is the founder of 1949: the library of women’s writings from Africa and the black world in Abidjan. The library’s mission is to unearth and amplify the contributions of African and black women to inspire present and future generations.
